Hazardous and Solid Waste Characterization (Phase II)

 

The presence of hazardous waste or solid waste on a property will affect the value of that property. More importantly, there are many human health and environmental concerns associated with that waste. In order to design a clean up program, the level and extent of contamination present at a site must be identified and characterized. The following activities are part of the characterization phase:

• Design limited or comprehensive sampling programs
• Install soil borings with a hollow-stem auger, percussion drill rig and cone-penetrometer
• Perform on-site and off-site laboratory analysis
• Define the vertical extent, lateral extent and concentration of most any contaminant
• Construct and install groundwater monitoring wells
• Sample surface water, run-off water and groundwater
• Determine soil characteristics through geotechnical analysis
• Track and predict contamination plumes in soil using mathematical modeling
• Prepare geological and groundwater plume impact statements
• Report findings to reulatory agencies

• Utilize government funds and grants whenever possible
